The Netball World Championships have been held every four years since 1963. They are co-ordinated by the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA). Since its inception the competition has been dominated primarily by the Australian national netball team and the New Zealand national netball team (the Silver Ferns).

|** Suva, Fiji was scheduled to host the 2007 competition but has been stripped of the right as a direct result of the December 2006 coup. Hosting rights were subsequently awarded to New Zealand, and the competition date moved from July to November 2007.
